If A/B = 237.4, and if B = 15, what is the remainder when A is divided by B?

When A is divided by B, call the quotient Q and the remainder R.

Then A = Q(B) + R

Divide both sides of this equation by B:

A/B = Q + R/B

Q, the integer part, must equal 237. The fraction R/B equals the decimal part, 0.4.

R/15 = 0.4

R = 15(0.4) = 6
