I don't understand the last part of the sentence. According to the video it means, "a little bit of tolerance for arguments often prevents conflicts". How can tolerance towards low level of conflicts prevent them? Or does "dissent" mean something else here. Or "a little of tolerance" means immediate action against the conflicts.

It is a bit counter-intuitive, isn't it?

The key word here is "low." According to the first part of the text, there is a "crucial reason for the low levels of serious conflict." We keep LOW levels of conflict, because allowing a LITTLE bit of dissent stops BIG problems from happening. The idea behind the text is that if you try to stop any and all conflict from arising, problems won't be worked out by small conflicts, and they will instead erupt in a major schism.

Also notice that the managers who don't see the "reason for the low levels of serious conflict" are "unenlightened." That means they are not seeing a BENEFIT of this small amount of conflict. Avoiding schism is a good thing, so that makes sense.

You said "WE keep low levels of conflict, because little dissent prevents schism" -- Who is we? Democratically run work groups?

Also, in the video, Chris mentions that democratically run groups have low levels of serious conflict (given in the prompt) but then he says thus authoritarian run groups have high levels of conflict -- can we assume that? Assume that authoritarian run groups have high level of conflict?

"We" in this case means anyone who is looking for a way to minimize serious conflict. And yes, in the context of the SE question, the practice of allowing low levels of conflict applies to democratically run work groups.

You're also right that the sentence suggests authoritarian groups may have high levels of conflict... or at the very least, a greater potential for serious conflicts in comparison to democratically run groups.
