You, Our Next Thriving Student?

I purchased a couple Manhattan Prep books, ETS's Official Guide, different phone apps, etc. yet I ended up using Magoosh's online application almost exclusively. I work full time and was only able to study after work and weekends. I was exhausted most nights after work before I even sat down to study... without the structure that Magoosh provides I would not have been able to be nearly as effective. I did not want to take the test more than once and my target was a 330. I scored a 331; what else can I say? Magoosh was literally a fraction of the price of the other paid resources. It has everything you need, trust me.

Magoosh helped keep me on track, at a much lower price point than other test prep systems. I followed the one-month plan, and was happy to do small pieces of prep each day. While I couldn't keep up the pace with a full-time job (as the guide warned me), I still believe Magoosh helped me a lot. I learned general strategies (number sense, not looking at the verbal answers without my own answer), a sense for timing, and most importantly, I always had a plan to follow so I couldn't second-guess myself.

Magoosh was extraordinarily helpful in the following ways:

1. It provided a regimen that I could follow. I'm applying to graduate school in my 30s - the days of integer properties and quadratic equations had long passed. I was at a loss of where to even begin.

2. The instructional videos and problem explanation videos served as a very useful refresher for some long forgotten concepts.

3. Practice questions. I completed all the questions and revisited all the incorrect questions at least once. I would attribute 80% of my success to the practice. As frustratingly contrived as exams are, one can get used to them simply by doing lots and lots and lots of practice.

This is for all the “average Joe’s” out there: Magoosh can drastically improve your score. Before purchasing Magoosh, I looked at many of the Magoosh reviews and was a little hesitant; most of the reviews were written by people scoring in the 320s or above. That’s great for them, but I hadn’t scored well at all on my first GRE attempt and wanted to have realistic expectations about my score potential. I needed to increase my quant score by at least 8 points for my grad program of choice, so I hammered math like there was no tomorrow. I watched every lesson video and completed over 400 math problems. Needless to say, Magoosh worked wonders for me. I gained 11 points in quant! (My verbal score didn’t improve at all, but that’s to be expected because I spent no time studying for it.) Magoosh can work wonders for learners at any level, even below average math scorers like me. I’m thankful for Magoosh and would recommend it to anyone.

As someone who graduated college 6 years ago, it was good to re-visit that problem solving approach that standardized tests are looking for. Magoosh definitely helped me re-learn what I had forgotten in my 6 years post graduate to succeed on the test.
