You, Our Next Thriving Student?

I purchased a couple Manhattan Prep books, ETS's Official Guide, different phone apps, etc. yet I ended up using Magoosh's online application almost exclusively. I work full time and was only able to study after work and weekends. I was exhausted most nights after work before I even sat down to study... without the structure that Magoosh provides I would not have been able to be nearly as effective. I did not want to take the test more than once and my target was a 330. I scored a 331; what else can I say? Magoosh was literally a fraction of the price of the other paid resources. It has everything you need, trust me.

Magoosh helped keep me on track, at a much lower price point than other test prep systems. I followed the one-month plan, and was happy to do small pieces of prep each day. While I couldn't keep up the pace with a full-time job (as the guide warned me), I still believe Magoosh helped me a lot. I learned general strategies (number sense, not looking at the verbal answers without my own answer), a sense for timing, and most importantly, I always had a plan to follow so I couldn't second-guess myself.

The videos in the math section were useful for a quick revision and the questions were quite representative of the level of the test.
Videos in the verbal and writing section were helpful in understanding the strategies.

I've always had trouble with standardized tests. Through high school I had a very non-traditional education. While writing and thinking were heavily emphasized, important aspects of learning such as time management strategies and rigorous analytical thinking were things I had to learn on my own. I wasn't surprised when on an early GRE practice test I ended up with a Verbal score of 154 and a Math score of 151. I was desperate to improve. I found Magoosh because I was looking for a less expensive alternative to hiring a tutor. I decided that what an online tutoring experience would lack in personal feedback I could make up for with commitment and self-motivation. It worked out. I ended up increasing my overall score by 15 points to 165 in Verbal and 155 in Math. This helps in significantly strengthening my applications for English and History grad programs. In addition to mobile apps and fully comprehensive video explanations, Magoosh's practice questions are its greatest strength. There were plenty questions of all difficulty levels to go through over the two months I spent studying. And the metrics Magoosh tracks (what questions I was best at, what questions I needed to improve on, how long I was taking to answer the questions) seemed to be just as useful as paying a tutor to tell me the same things - simplifying things a bit there. I couldn't be happier with my Magoosh experience and I really look forward to seeing the many more success stories that will be on the website in the future.

Given that I had recently started working, large blocks of time for study was hard to allot. I used magoosh for incremental but sustained study, using up my travel time effectively. Further, it is far less taxing to use videos and online questions than using a clunky guide or reference books. The score predictor is quite accurate too and helped me approach exam day with confidence.

getting familiar with the hard questions

I did all the Magoosh verbal exercises. During that, I wrote down all the words that I did't know and translated all the sentences. This process gave a natural sense of what I should fill in the blanks.

The vocabulary app was fabulous as I learn vocabulary best through flashcards.

The math videos were probably the one reason I scored above 154 or so in quant - I learned new and more efficient ways of solving problems that I had been cumbersome for me when using high school techniques. I also developed a much stronger number sense and pattern-matching skill than before.

There are very detailed videos and lots of practice questions!

Magoosh videos were amazingly helpful for the quantitative material. I am so glad that I used those videos and I'm sure they made a huge difference in my score. I have always enjoyed Math but haven't touched this level of material in about 14 years.

I don't think I was ever bad at GRE math before I used Magoosh, but I kept messing up because I either read the question incorrectly, or because I just didn't know a simpler way to solve the question. Magoosh really helped with those issues. As for verbal , Magoosh's vocab builder app , the flashcards app , and the lessons on how to tackle various types of verbal questions prepared me well enough for the verbal section so that I felt quite comfortable answering most of the questions on there.

Magoosh was the primary source for all of my GRE preparation, I didn't look at any other material from any other source. Solving all the Magoosh practice questions trained me well enough for the actual test. Also Magoosh GRE flashcards app and Magoosh Vocab builder were very helpful amd were my only source for preparing vocab.
