You, Our Next Thriving Student?

I purchased a couple Manhattan Prep books, ETS's Official Guide, different phone apps, etc. yet I ended up using Magoosh's online application almost exclusively. I work full time and was only able to study after work and weekends. I was exhausted most nights after work before I even sat down to study... without the structure that Magoosh provides I would not have been able to be nearly as effective. I did not want to take the test more than once and my target was a 330. I scored a 331; what else can I say? Magoosh was literally a fraction of the price of the other paid resources. It has everything you need, trust me.

Magoosh helped keep me on track, at a much lower price point than other test prep systems. I followed the one-month plan, and was happy to do small pieces of prep each day. While I couldn't keep up the pace with a full-time job (as the guide warned me), I still believe Magoosh helped me a lot. I learned general strategies (number sense, not looking at the verbal answers without my own answer), a sense for timing, and most importantly, I always had a plan to follow so I couldn't second-guess myself.

First time: I skimmed all of the videos once trying to watch all of them. I also took multiple practice tests and practice questions. I went through all 1000 flashcards and felt comfortable with them.

Second time: Watching the videos again for the math section really helped me the second time around. I did not use any of the verbal section videos to study. I did not use Magoosh flashcards, I used another app that had 5000 words.

Magoosh is extremely helpful. I'm not the person who would like to 'waste time' completing a survey. However, I only spend half a month to get such satisfactory score. During the preparation, I even didn't read the Official Guide(I know it's not recommended :p). I only watched the lessons and practiced the questions and Magoosh helped me free form the pain the take the GRE again!

Magoosh was an excellent platform which allowed me to practice specific sets of question types that I needed help with. The video instructions are clear, but brief, allowing you to cover a lot of material in a single session. I used Magoosh in conjunction with other GRE prep books and found the online platform far more realistic to the testing conditions. I'm a firm believer in the practice-like-you'll-perform method and being able to acclimate myself to practice tests using a computer rather than a traditional book was extremely helpful in my preparation.

Magoosh not only provided a great platform for me to learn but also pointed me in the right direction for additional resources and learning. This methodology really shows how much Magoosh wants the test taker to succeed. I increased my score by 12 points in 3 weeks by studying the Magoosh vocab and actively seeking Magoosh recommended resources for learning.

The explanatory videos in the math section were very helpful. Also getting a sense of what my score might be as I answered questions in the tests was very helpful.

A friend recommended me to use Magoosh after he scored a 309 with 2 months practice. When I took the premium I was not certain if it would help me in such a small time period of less than 1 month. But after practicing over 2 times and thanks to Chris Lele for his wonderful video explanations, I reached my dream score.

The mathematics videos were awesome. They covered everything and more in a clear and concise manner. It was incredibly beneficial to have practice problems in the videos as well.


The study plan I subscribed to was key, as I had a strict schedule to follow, but in the end it helped take the stress off of assigning myself work. It helped my study pace and gave me ample amount of time to watch all the mathematics videos at least once, but also a great amount of time practicing.

Besides the practice questions for the verbal section, the Magoosh GRE Vocabulary Flashcards app was the best resource for sharpening my vocabulary, and was also very convenient.

It's hard to put my finger on what was the most helpful/important part of studying with Magoosh, since I strongly believe the combination of instructional videos, practice problems (and videos to explain solutions), practice tests, study plans, preparation information, and on-the-go apps were crucial to my success. If I was forced to pick one, however, I'd say the lesson videos for mathematics.

I definitely needed the most help in math. The practice problems were very close to the actual exam. The techniques provided by the Magoosh teachers showed me how to quickly answer the problems. With similar study questions, I was able to save minutes of work on test day!

Also, the writing component suggestions were quite helpful. Beginning with the hypothesis and writing the entire paper before the introductory paragraph allowed me to synthesis my thoughts and organize a well-devised intro.

I was able to approach the passages such that I could complete the verbal sections with much better accuracy. The word lists were incredibly helpful and text completion strategies made the verbal section so much easier; there didn't seem to be a sentence equivalence or text completion that I couldn't complete on the actual test. The Magoosh verbal questions were great in that they were challenging and accurate; I was more accustomed to the format on the actual GRE thanks to the questions.

The math questions were much tougher on the actual test and covered all the pitfalls that I would face on the actual test.

The video explanations were amazing

First time: did lots of problems, familiarized myself with the topics covered. Thought that would be enough.

Second time: Watched most of the videos, learned about the common patterns and tricks used on the GRE. Supremely helpful.

Structured study time and the opportunity to get step by step feedback on every single question was great

The best part about Magoosh was the study plan-- having someone else take care of thinking about how much I would need to cover and how fast made it much easier for me to dive into the actual studying. Pairing that with the videos and the practice materials was a HUGE help.

Great lessons, good practice problems, helped me focus on areas I needed to brush up on most!

It served as a math refresher (I didn't have too long to study, so I couldn't use it to the fullest, but what videos I could watch were very helpful!), and it gave some great strategies for how to tackle verbal questions. I also used a ton of vocab flashcards! Most helpful were the videos about the writing section. No nonsense!

Magoosh allowed me to use a concrete study plan that produced real results, helped me gauge my progress, and allowed me to feel confident walking in on test day.

At first, with 3 months to go before the test, I had high hopes of following the 3 month study schedule to the T. However, I was also moving halfway across the country. Many predictable but unpredicted interruptions got in the way, so while continuing to study as much as I could, I switched to the 2-3 month schedule and then finally to the 1 month schedule with only a few weeks remaining. While I felt disappointed that I wasn't able to keep up my original plan, I realize in retrospect that those schedules still helped me to fit studying into a very hectic time. I was also disappointed that I wasn't able to watch all the lesson videos or go through all the study questions and explanation videos. However, they were indispensable in helping me to identify my weak spots and then boost my confidence once they helped me understand the concepts. Magoosh has given me such a leg up in my application process and made a fairly smooth ride of what could have been tortuous.

The verbal and writing sections were what I cared about, and Magoosh had the perfect combination of clear explanations and lots of good practice problems.
