You, Our Next Thriving Student?

I purchased a couple Manhattan Prep books, ETS's Official Guide, different phone apps, etc. yet I ended up using Magoosh's online application almost exclusively. I work full time and was only able to study after work and weekends. I was exhausted most nights after work before I even sat down to study... without the structure that Magoosh provides I would not have been able to be nearly as effective. I did not want to take the test more than once and my target was a 330. I scored a 331; what else can I say? Magoosh was literally a fraction of the price of the other paid resources. It has everything you need, trust me.

Magoosh helped keep me on track, at a much lower price point than other test prep systems. I followed the one-month plan, and was happy to do small pieces of prep each day. While I couldn't keep up the pace with a full-time job (as the guide warned me), I still believe Magoosh helped me a lot. I learned general strategies (number sense, not looking at the verbal answers without my own answer), a sense for timing, and most importantly, I always had a plan to follow so I couldn't second-guess myself.

I was better prepared to understand the format, timing, and content. I was able to take a pre-test and see how I could expect to do, which allayed my fears.

Practice problems

Magoosh helped me so much on my time management! Before taking Magoosh, I rarely had enough time to finish each question on the test day and always had to scramble through the questions at the end of each section. Magoosh’s comprehensive 90-day study plan for advanced students made me go through tons of practice problems and helped me become familiar with the question types. I learned to strategically skip harder problems and solve easy problems first, which helped with my confidence on the test day and gave me time to complete and review questions for each section. As a result, my verbal score improved by 6 points and my math score improved by 4 points with 8 weeks of studying.

Magoosh’s verbal video lessons also helped build my confidence on tackling the long-passage problems and vocabulary questions by showing me the logic behind solving each type of problems. I am not a native English speaker so the verbal sections always stress me out. Going through Magoosh’s video lessons made me realize that the GRE question writers are out to trick all test takers by making the questions excessively boring, long-winded, and hard to comprehend, even for the native speakers. I learned that by understanding the logic behind each question and practicing tons, anyone can dramatically improve their verbal scores.

It allowed for rapid fire practice or for a targeted and focused practice session, and had video explanations to make sure I understood. The videos were very helpful, and the videos for the official materials was great as well.

Basically the verbal section was very helpful via the questions being similar to the ETS questions, and the vocabulary software.

I liked getting all the reps on the problems. I really thought I would do better than I did with how much I studied. I am very disappointed that my score went down after I went through every practice problem in Magoosh. I saw problems in the GRE that I had never encountered (or couldn’t remember seeing) in the GRE. I thought I understood them in spite of that because of what I learned through Magoosh but I guess I really struggled.

I had around week to prepare because I’m a student and didn’t have a lot of free time between classes and finals. I went over the manhattan prep GRE books (only the math) over the course of several months (just skimmed through them) I signed up for the magoosh because I had heard good things, and also I needed access to a lot of questions (and answers) Solving the practice problems helped me zone into where I was lacking conceptually, and I used the videos to help with that. I gave 2 practice papers on Magoosh before moving on to the ETS papers. The magoosh papers were a little tougher for the verbal than the actual test, and I thought the quant was about the same. My score predictions were quite accurate, and it helped me gain some confidence before the exam.

The customizable practice question set was of great help in setting my pace and improving my speed. Some insights in the video lessons were also very helpful. All the necessary topics were covered and topics which I wouldn't normally study in detail came in the actual test which were discussed in the video lessons in depth.

the english was very helpful. i didnt do any of the math problems so i cant vouch for the math but the english explanations and timer was extremely helpful.

It allowed me to learn at my own pace and focus on those areas that I most needed.
